Chairman of Emouha Local Government Area in Rivers State, Dr Chidi Lloyd, has presented two bills to the local government legislative council.

One of the bills seeks to regulate ownership of mortuary, and to ban open sales of caskets in the council area.

The bills include: A bill for a bye-law to provide for the establishment, registration and regulation of Emouha Local Government Area Vigilante Services and for connected matters

and Emouha Local Government Area Mortuary Establishment, Regulation and Prohibition of Open Sales of Casket Bill, 2021.

Lloyd said the first bill will provide a legal backing for the proposed Emouha Local Government Vigilante Services, as well as enable the local government regulate their activities, following the disbandment of the different community vigilante groups in the area.

The second bill, he said, will regulate the activities of mortuary operators and casket traders within Emouha Local Government Area, especially the siting of mortuaries and sale of caskets on major roads in the local government area.

The council chairman said the two executive bills when passed into law will bring orderliness in the local government area.

Meanwhile,  leader of Emouha Legislative Council, Mrs Love Nyenke, thanked the council chairman for his proactive steps towards the development of the area, assuring that the assembly will give the necessary support to the executive chairman.
