Rivers council boss places one million naira bounty on cultists

In bid to intensify the fight against insecurity and to build on the relative peace being enjoyed  in Khana local council of Rivers State, the chairman, Dr. Thomas Bariere has placed a one million naira bounty on any cultist captured and handed over to security agencies by community youths as well as leaders.

He made the declaration at Betem community in the area during the laying down of arms and oath-taking by some repentant cultist.

Thomas reiterated his commitment to ending insecurity in the council.

He said” I swore an oath to Khana people to protect lives and properties, and I intend to keep that promise at all cost, I honoured this call today because leaders of Betem had informed me that some youths who were known cultist had voluntarily decided to lay down arms and embrace peace”.

“We have been preaching peace in all our communities since we came into office, and today i applaud the peace process taking place in Betem community”.

“But this peace process will not be complete without the repentant cultist dropping theirs arms, everyone of you who has voluntarily decided to renounced cultism must complete the process by handing over your arms to security agencies”.

“I want you all to know today, that this administration is not begging anyone to renounce cultism or turn a new leaf, we have the capacity to fight and end insecurity in its totality in this LGA.

“As I leave here today, any known cultist that has refused to embrace peace is hereby declared wanted.”

He added: “ My charge to Betem youths is to capture any cultist you see, call on us, and you will be rewarded with the sum of one million naira. This  charge had been giving to all community youths across Khana LGA, and it’s already yielding positive results”.

Speaking further the council boss  accused some leaders in the council for sympathising, supporting  or sponsors of insecurity and are trying so hard to sabotage his efforts.

“Some leaders are also a problem in some of our communities. They use the resources God has blessed them with to sponsor insecurity, some even hire lawyers to facilitate the release of the ones we have arrested. Every sponsors or supporter of insecurity will be brought to book. We are not only out for the perpetrators alone, we are also out for the sponsors”, he concluded.

HRH, Mene Peter Alobari, MeneBua Yaayor on his part expressed  profound gratitude to the council  chairman  for his efforts in the fight against insecurity and cultism in the area.
