Ogoni youths urge KENPOLY to rescind directive on students’ resumption with personal mattresses

The Ogoni Youth Federation has urged the management of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori (KENPOLY) to rescind it directive on students who paid for hostel accommodations to resume the 2022/2023 academic session with personal mattresses. OYF in a statement by its President-General,

Legborsi Yamaabana also called on the Rivers State Government to dissolve the governing council of the polytechnic for always imposing offensive policies on the students.

The youth group said, “It is insensitive on the part of the authorities of KENPOLY after receiving humongous tuition feels, hostel accommodation fees and other arbitrary fees from students, to turn around to direct them to come to school with mattresses. This development is alien to tertiary education system and those who made the decision have no respect for education and if allowed, could reduce KENPOLY to the level of secondary school and chase prospective students away”.

OYF while calling for the dissolution of the governing board accused them of always promoting harsh policies.

“The current authority of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, headed by its governing council chairman, Adokiye Amiesimaka, is Notorious in promoting despicable policy. Recall that in 2021, the Management of the school, attempted to foist no school fees, no exam policy on the students. It took the intervention of Ogoni Youth Federation and other well meaning individuals to force them to abrogate that demonic policy”.

“Just like it failed in 2021, this  scheme will not fly. We call on student’s union leaders in KENPOLY and other sister institutions to rise to the occasion and defend the rights of the students. Education is a right, not a privilege”.

“We call on the Governor of Rivers State and Visitor to the polytechnic to not only cause this unpalatable decision to be rescinded but to dissolve the Governing Council of the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic”.
