Apex Ijaw group, the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Eastern Zone has denied the purported endorsement of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State , Sir Siminialayi Fubara as the sole gubernatorial candidate of the Ijaw people in the forthcoming election.

This followed the endorsement of the PDP candidate by a group under the name Ijaw Wari.

INC in a statement signed by its chairman, HRH King NLA Iraron, said it was deceitful for the group to use the name and its flag to deceive the people.

He urged the public to ignore the purported endorsement and warned the group to desist from using its name and flag to deceive the public.

It reads: “We the Executives and members of the Ijaw National Congress Eastern Zone dissociate ourselves from the purported endorsement by a faceless Whatsapp organisation that used Ijaw as a subterfuge coined Ijaw Wari.

“Ijaw Wari meaning Ijaw House is the Headquarter of the Ijaws situated at Yenagoa.

“ Using the name outside the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and the Ijaw National Congress (INC) to hoodwink the society is a misnomer and an aberration to the sensibility of the Ijaw Nation”.

The group said, “However we agitate for a Rivers State governor from Ijaw extraction, we desire a diplomatic and subtle collaboration within and with other ethnic nationalities of the state not an imposition”

“The use of Ijaw National flag to seem an Ijaw statement in the purported endorsement of Sim Fubara is an illegality.

“The Ijaw Wari and its conveners are advised forthwith to desist from usurping responsibilities of the Ijaw National Congress and other Ijaw statutory organizations as the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), including the use of its flags and emblems in order not to desecrate the sanctity and unity of the Ijaw nation. They are also advised to stop the use of Ijaw Wari as a social media platform or Whatsapp group without authorization.

“We reiterate that the Ijaw National Congress which stands as the natural and traditional voice of the Ijaw people have not endorsed any governorship candidate in Rivers State.
