Rivers Crisis: Wike’s ally, Amadi finally steps aside as Fubara’s Chief of Staff

Chidi Amadi has finally resigned from his position as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, confirmed the resignation to newsmen on Wednesday, saying the governor would announce a replacement at the appropriate time.

He said, “The former Chief of Staff, Hon Chidi Amadi, has resigned. The governor will announce another Chief of Staff at the appropriate time.

“It is the prerogative of the governor to appoint when he wants it. He will tell us and we will announce it and you will also get the release to that effect.”

Before he was appointed as the Chief of Staff, Amadi, who is from the same Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state with Wike, was the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the LGA, and a known ally of the Federal Capital Terrritory, FCT, minister.

Amadi’s resignation brings to 10 the number of principal members of the Fubara cabinet who have parted ways with him as a result of the rift between the governor and his former political godfather, Wike.

At the wake of the crisis late last year, it was rumoured that Fubara had sacked Amadi. However, Amadi was hardly seen with Fubara at any state function since the crisis began.

Amadi’s resignation we gathered may not be unconnected with the rumoured appointment of the immediate past speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie as the Chief of Staff to Fubara.

Recall that last week, after Edison tendered his resignation, it was reported on several media platforms that he has been appointed as CoS even though there has not been any official statement to that effect.
