Police intercepts fleeing robbers in Rivers

Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers at the Mile 3 axis of Port Harcourt.

They were intercepted and arrested at the Abuja bye-pass/Olu-Obasanjo road area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko who confirmed the arrest said the fleeing suspects were intercepted by detectives attached to Olu-Obasanjo Police Division after they attempted to escape through the route.

She explained that the fleeing suspects were four, but that while one escaped, three were arrested.

Iringe-Koko said investigation has already begun into the matter.

The suspects had earlier caused pandemonium at the Bishop Okoye Street, Mile 3 Diobu, when they rammed into traders who had displayed their goods for the day’s business.

An eyewitness who identified herself simply as Rachael told newsmen that, “we were in the market when we saw a Sienna vehicle with four occupants brandishing guns with their heads out of the windows of the vehicle.

“There was serious chaos in the market when we saw them as they drove with speed into Bishop Okoye Street while being chased by Police officers.

“Some persons sustained injuries during the incident while some goods were destroyed as they tried escaping through the market.”
