Rivers Crisis: Assembly beams searchlight on Chief Judge over alleged age falsification

By: Felix Ikpotor

As the political crisis rocking Rivers State continues to take dimensions, the Rivers State House of Assembly, RVHA, has petitioned the Department of State Security, DSS, to investigate the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi over alleged age falsification.

The order followed a document presented before the assembly on Thursday by the Leader of the House, Major Jack, alleging that Justice Amadi falsified his age in the civil service.

Commenting, lawmakers at the sitting argued that falsification is a serious offense, but noted the allegation must first be proven, and urged relevant security agencies to help the House by investigating the allegation.

On his part, the speaker, Martin Chike Amaewhule, stated that the House, though empowered to conduct investigation by the provisions of Section 128 of the Constitution, but alleged that the Governor of the State has barred all heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies not to appear before the House or assist the House in the conduct of investigation.

He further called on the Department of State Service to institute an investigation into the allegation with a view to ascertaining the veracity or otherwise and which outcome will be forwarded to the National Judicial Council(NJC).
