Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr. Thomas Bariere, has emphasized the need for a more coordinated and structured framework within the creative and entertainment sector in Khana. This, he noted, is essential for unlocking greater opportunities and attracting both public and private sector support.
Speaking during the second day of the Khana Creative Industry Summit in Bori, headquarters of the LGA, the Chairman commended the initiative, describing it as both impactful and timely. He observed that the summit has not only met its core objectives but has also laid a solid foundation for sustained engagement and development within the local creative ecosystem.
Furthermore, the Council Boss reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the entertainment industry, highlighting its critical role in youth empowerment, job creation, and economic advancement. According to him, the sector remains a viable platform for talent discovery and community development.
In addition, he stressed the importance of forming a unified body for creatives and entertainers in Khana. Such an organization, he explained, would enhance coordination, ensure proper representation, and improve access to funding and institutional support.
Meanwhile, the Chairman urged emerging talents to prioritize skill acquisition and personal development. He maintained that visibility, preparedness, and professionalism are key factors in attracting meaningful opportunities within the highly competitive creative space.
He also encouraged participants to adopt a proactive approach to growth, noting that consistent self-improvement is necessary to compete with established industry figures.
Notably, Bariere, attributed the steady rise in entertainment activities across Khana to the prevailing peace and improved security under his administration. This conducive environment, he said, has enabled creatives to thrive and monetize their talents effectively.
The summit was organized by the Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman on Entertainment and Performing Arts, Lexy Mueka, whose efforts were instrumental in convening stakeholders and driving conversations aimed at strengthening the creative industry in Khana.
In attendance alongside the Chairman were the Vice Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Hon. Nugbenekpughi Ibrahim; the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Dr. Daniel Dorka; as well as Supervisors, Advisers, and other council appointees, showing the administration’s collective commitment to the growth of the sector.
Notably, the summit also featured lectures and engagements by prominent figures in the creative and entertainment space, including K.O. Baba, Dan Kpodoh, Ndume Green, Dr. Ovunda Ihumwo, Dr. Olatunde (NCC), Lawrence Paul, and David Campbell among others, who contributed valuable insights and perspectives to participants.
