Rivers Education Ministry Seeks Partnership With Media, Says Teachers’ Recruitment Ongoing

Rivers State Ministry of Education has called for greater partnership with the media in highlighting the successes of the Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s achievement in education.

‎Commissioner for education in the state, Peters Nwagor, made the appeal when members of the National Association of Education Correspondents, Rivers, State Chapter paid him a familiarisation visit at his office in Port Harcourt.

‎Nwagor while emphasizing the importance of the media stressed that the government was making giants strides in education such as the ongoing recruitment of 5,000 teachers and the just concluded orientation for 1,000 teachers earlier employed and to be posted to schools.

‎He said with the employments, schools in the state would no longer lack teachers to handle the various subjects.

‎”We are aware that His Excellency did approve the employment of 1,000 teachers for which we have the orientation today. You know, people may not be aware of what is happening except it be made in public.

‎”The employment of 5,000 teachers, it’s also ongoing and within the next three, four weeks, we would have concluded with that employment and we are going to have our schools having sufficient teachers that will be able to carry out learning activities. That means we may not be having shortage of teachers anymore and that is one of those achievements of His Excellency (Siminialayi Fubara) and that is the area I prefer the media to also have coverage so that people will be aware of the successes of this present administration,” he said.

‎”I want to please request you to partner with the Ministry of Education to ensure that the successes being made in this ministry is being known to people and so in any way that  we can do to achieve that let’s do it, ” he added.

‎Earlier in his address, chairman of the association, Elder Amadi Akujobi said the visit was to strengthen the relationship between the media and the education sector in the state.

‎Akujobi commended the ministry for her efforts in advancing education in the state, stressing that the association is committed to promoting policies that would positively impact the state.

‎”Our association serves as a bridge between the education sector and the public. Through accurate and balanced reporting, we help to inform citizens, promote transparency, highlight achievements, and also bring attention to areas that may require intervention for the overall growth of the sector.

‎”This visit therefore offers us an opportunity to deepen collaboration with the Ministry, enhance access to credible information, and promote regular engagement between education correspondents and relevant education stakeholders in the state,” he stated.
