Governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has unveiled plans to establish a minimum N20 billion interest-free loan facility for small and medium-scale businesses in the state, if elected.
Chief Lulu-Briggs, who disclosed this in a statement, said the initiative is part of his grassroots-focused economic renewal agenda aimed at restoring hope and supporting enterprise.
According to him, while rebuilding Rivers State may take time, the people cannot afford to wait indefinitely before feeling the impact of leadership.
He noted that thousands of small business owners across the state are striving to build better lives and create jobs, yet many lack the necessary support to grow.
”This is why I proposed a minimum N20 billion interest-free loan facility for bankable businesses in Rivers State. A N5 million, N10 million, or N20 million loan, depending on the scale of a business, could be the difference between struggling to survive and expanding to create more jobs and opportunities,” he stated.
The NDC flag-bearer said his administration, within its first 100 days in office, would prioritize immediate interventions such as the loan scheme, to be implemented through transparent processes and proper accountability mechanisms, while pursuing deeper institutional reforms.
”My vision is to begin the work of renewal from the grassroots up,” he said, adding that “resetting Rivers State must mean more than rebuilding institutions. It must mean restoring hope, supporting enterprise, and giving our people a fair chance to thrive.”
Chief Lulu-Briggs stressed that his mantra that “Rivers belongs to the people” must transcend mere slogan to become the guiding principle of governance.
He therefore called on Rivers people to believe in the possibility of a better state and to support his candidature in the forthcoming election, assuring that together, the state can be rebuilt from the grassroots and made to work for all.
”Rivers State must work for Rivers People,” he added.
