$8.4m: Patience Jonathan loses in court

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has been ordered to forfeit the sum of $8.4 million and N9.2 billion to the Federal Government.

The order was given on Monday, by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos  who held that the money is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The court granted an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that the money should be permanently forfeited to the government.

Justice Olatoregun held that Mrs Jonathan could not prove that the money was legitimately earned.

Dame Jonathan who is the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan has ben having a running battle with the anti-graft agency over some of her assets since her husband left office.
