Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday dismissed the case instituted by the Police Service Commission over the recruitment of 10, 000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force.
In the matter with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1120/19, the Police Service Commission had dragged the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector General of Police and the Minister of Police Affairs as first, second and third respondents respectively to the court. The Attorney General was subsequently added as a fourth respondent.
The PSC sought to restrain the defendants, their officers and representatives including anybody or person acting on their behalf from appointing, recruiting or attempting to appoint or recruit by any means whatsoever any person into any office in the first defendant pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
Delivering his judgment, Ekwo said, after examining the evidences, he found nothing to establish the plaintiff’s case, which he described as lacking in merit.
The judge held that the power of recruitment of constables into the Nigerian is under the Inspector General of Police, who controls the process.
