The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said it has secured no fewer than 1,245 convictions in 2019.
Acting Chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Magu said this while briefing journalists at the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday.
Magu stated that the anti-graft agency, despite recording unprecedented achievement last year will not rest on its oars in the fight against corruption.
“We have gotten about two conviction of governors last year and we are going to record more convictions this year.
“Last year we recorded 1,245 convicts. That is unprecedented. Am fighting corruption in EFCC and outside EFCC”.
The EFCC boss also confirmed the auctioning of 244 trucks and other vehicles impounded by the Nigerian Army, 6 Division, Port Harcourt, and handed over to the Commission.
The vehicles according to him were impounded by the army for involvement in illegal petroleum dealings in Rivers State.
He said the trucks and vehicles were forfeited to the federal government after the owners failed to show up to claim them.
“You are aware that the Army impounded about 244 trucks and vehicles involved in illegal petroleum dealings. After some years most of the trucks and vehicles are there. Most of the trucks have been there for not less than two years and they decided that they will hand over the trucks to the EFCC.
“So we went to Court and the Court asked us to go for publication and we came out with details of all the vehicles, description and registration number. After the publication we stayed for more than two weeks. And they were finally forfeited to the Federal government. At that time the vehicles becomes properties to the federal government”, he said.
The EFCC boss noted that the proceeds of the sale of the vehicles and petroleum products will be transferred to the Consolidated Revenue Account of the Federal government.
