…Commends Wike for addressing protesters
The Rivers State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has urged public relations practitioners in the state to engage stakeholders in security and other relevant government agencies inorder to proffer solutions to the#EndSars protest rocking the Country.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Chinedum Emeana said, the chapter is in strong support of the courageous attempt by Nigerians to reform the Police to become more viable to addressing the numerous security challenges facing the nation.
Even as it commended Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for being responsive to change government initial position by addressing the Protesters thereby demonstrating himself to be a listening servant leader of the people.
The statement reads in parts: “We need to be seen as part of the collective efforts to reform the Police into a service institution that ordinary citizens and serving members of the institution can identify with positively.
The Police can become an institution that generates a sense of confidence and pride to both citizens and serving personnel”.
The statement commended Nigerians who put their lives at risk to demand for an end to a dysfunctional and oppressive security service in our nation.
It further stated that the different protest across the nation should serve as a notice that Nigerian people should no longer be taken for granted.
It appealed to the Civil Society coalition behind the national demonstration, to commit afresh to help work with government inorder to make Nigeria better, for ordinary citizens by turning attention to other pressing areas.
It also commended the Inspector General Police, Muhammed Adamu for making his office demonstrate that he is willing to listen to the citizenry who the police institution is expected to serve.
“Those who wear the Police identity or that of any security arm as well as agency of government for that matter, need to do so with pride as an index of national reputation.
“Our people can rise to influence public policy in order to regain human dignity and national reputation.
NIPR Rivers state chapter is ready at all times to provide professional support to the Police as well as the government,” it added.
