Management of the Rivers State owned Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Rumuolumeni, IAUOE, has received commendations for expelling six students over corrupt practices in the campus.
Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign made the commendation in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by its Head of Women Mobilization, Miss Uzoma Kelechi.
The Senate of the institution had announced the expulsion of three male students for gang raping a female student inside a male hostel last year October in the campus, while three others were expelled for stealing and defrauding fellow students of their school fee.
The group said the Senate of the institution has proven that issues of sexual violence and corrupt practices do not have a place in the university.
Uzoma said the action of the Senate has reinstalled public confidence on the safety of students particularly female students on the campus by ensuring that appropriate sanction was meted out to perpetrators of the dastardly act against the female year 1 student.
She said the sanction will serve as deterrent to others.
She also commended the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele for keeping to his word by ensuring that justice is served.
Meanwhile, a year one male student of the school was nabbed at the Salvation hostel which is a known female hostel in the school, where he disguised himself as female while trying to steal from the occupants.
According to reports, the year one student was properly dressed as a female student while carrying out his business unsuspectingly.
Before the school security could get to the disguised thief, it was gathered that the female occupants of the hostel had given him the beating of his life while ripping his pseudo attire to shreds.
One of the female students revealed that there has been complaints of missing properties by students lately in the hostel.
Recall that in early 2020, the senior pastor of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie built and donated the said hostel to the school.
