Gunmen attack on vigilante group claims two in Anambra

Unknown gunmen have attacked the operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Service, killing at least four persons while setting ablaze three vehicles.

Bloody attack occurred at Nnobi Junction, Idemili South Local Government Area on Sunday evening. It sent residents of the scampering for safety as gunshots rented the air.

Community sources disclosed that four persons were killed, two out of whom were operatives of Anambra Vigilante Service while two of their IVM off-road trucks were set ablaze. Another commercial bus was also set ablaze by the hoodlums.

The attack comes just a week after gunmen attacked a police checkpoint in Ezeiweka, killing two police officers.

The resurgence of attacks also come less than two months to the crucial November 6 gubernatorial election.

It is not immediately clear the motives behind the attack on the vigilante group but a similar attack on them earlier in April at Awkuzu, led to the killing of six of their operatives.
