OML 11: Ogoni youths to meet over adoption of Wike to lead discussion on resumption of oil exploration

Youths of Ogoni ethnic nationality in Rivers State says they will meet to take a stand on the adoption of Governor Nyesom Wike by leaders of the area to lead discussion on the resumption of oil exploration in Oil Mining Lease (OML11).

PHSpectator reports that Ogoni leaders led by a former president of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), Ledum Mitee met with Governor Nyesom Wike on Thursday where they inundated him on their visit to the presidency and adopted him to lead talks for the resumption of oil exploration in the area.

President General of Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF), Legborsi Yamaabana who stated this in a statement said the body has received several several calls regarding the move by Ogoni leaders.

He said: “ We have received numerous calls from Ogoni people and well-meaning individuals both within and outside Nigeria, regarding the recent visit of Ogoni leaders to the Governor of Rivers State, where the Governor was adopted to lead the Ogoni Ethnic Nationality in all  discussions and engagement with the Federal Government relating to resumption of oil and gas production in the Ogoni oil fields (OML 11)”.

“Accordingly, we have decided to embark on massive consultation on this matter. Thereafter, in the coming days, we shall convoke  an Ogoni Youth Summit, where the position of Ogoni youths on resumption of oil and gas exploration in Ogoniland shall be reached”.

The body called on Ogoni youths and people of the area to be patient and resolute as it is working tirelessly to ensure that their collective interests are protected.
