Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun today stormed the Ministry of Finance under tight security.
This is as a result of a two-day protest by staff of the ministry over the non-payment of their Special Overtime Allowance which according to them is about N1.2bn.
The minister, who had reportedly stayed away from the ministry’s headquarters, arrived at about 8am with her convoy amid tight security.
Prior to her arrival, we gathered that over 70 security personnel from the Nigerian Police Force were stationed at strategic locations both within and outside the premises of the ministry in a bid to forestall any break down of law and order and to prevent any possible attack on the minister.
Workers of the Ministry had prevented the Minister from gaining access into the ministry while pushing for their demands in the past few days.
The angry workers on sitting Adeosun’s entourage this morning barricaded the main entrance into the Ministry and started shouting “Adeosun must go, she must go,” “We want change, give us change,” among others.
The workers insisted that the Minister address their plights right at the gate before she could be allowed into the complex, insisting she alight from her vehicle and address their plight, the angry workers also vowed to prevent her from attending the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting which holds today.
Adeosun consequently heeded to their demands and held a meeting with the workers union in a bid to finding solution to the problem.
