Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, Comrade Beatrice Itubo has said that she would not relinquish her position as the leader of the unions despite emerging as the governorship ticket of the Labour Party for the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
Itubo won the ticket of the Labour Party (LP) after securing 201 votes to defeat her closest opponent, Arc. Eniye Braide, who pulled 71 votes during the primary election of the party held on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
The labour leader told reporters that she was not appointed by any government agency but elected to lead the workers of Rivers State.
She argued that there was no provision by any known law for her to resign, stressing that she would remain the chairperson of NLC until such a time that she feels that the job has become too cumbersome for her to carry out, before she could hand over to somebody to be acting, insisting that, “for now, I’m still the NLC chairperson”
She was declared winner of the election by the Returning Officer, who is the South-South Vice Chairman of Labour Party, Prince Favour Reuben.
