2023 guber: Group calls for unity among Ogonis

By: Felix Ikpotor

As more groups and ethnic blocs in Rivers State continue to galvanise their people towards the 2023  general election, a socio-political pressure group in Ogoni, Sor-Ogoni has called on all true sons and daughters of the area to unite across political divides to actualize the dream of producing the next governor  of the state come 2023.

Dr. Suanu Cookey, Nationa Leader of Sor-Ogoni World Wide made the call in a statement on Tuesday.

He said: “We wish to draw the attention of the people to  the fact devoid of any sentiment that we have not been Governor of Rivers State since its creation in 1967. We have not produced a Deputy Governor, a Speaker of House of Assembly, a chief judge of the state. This is politics at play in Rivers state”.

“As a people, we have the right for political equality in our God given state.Yet, we have been perpetually marginalized, oppressed and suppressed politically. Ironically, Ogoni land has sacrificially contributed immensely to the wealth of the Nigeria State.

” Ogonis in terms of politics have given enough and has worked assiduously for others. The Ogoni people have supported the Rivers West, South East and other ethnic Nationalities in the state. That for equity, justice and fairness to prevail, the Ogonis which is one of the major and populous ethnic groups in Rivers state should produce the next governor come 2023″.

The group called on the people of the area to boldly come out to support one of their sons who has courageously  declared his intention to be governor.

“The Most  Distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe should be supported by all Ogoni People to pilot the affairs of Rivers State from the Brick House come 2023.

“Abe, stands out as the most qualified to mount the most prestigious seat, assessing his wealth of experience in public service and his stellar credentials which speaks volume. We are talking about a former minority leader, Rivers State House of Assembly, a former commissioner for information Rivers State, a former Secretary to the state Government, a former senator representing south East senatorial District and a former member representing South – South on NNPC Board. Above all, a lawyer by profession”.

It passionately appealed that, ‘ all sons and daughters  of Ogoni extraction should realise  that now is our time, the set time has come and it should be embraced by all. Its high time we woke up from political slumber, embrace peace, unity, positive voice and collective spirit to achieve our dream and aspiration for political attainment and emancipation for tomorrow which kick starts today”.
