Rivers LG polls: Monarchs urge RSIEC to conduct peaceful elections

The Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council have called on the State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, to conduct a free and credible local council polls in the state.

Recall that RSIEC had fixed October 5, 2024 for local council elections in the state.

The council in a statement issued after their extraordinary meeting in Port Harcourt and signed by the council chairman, Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo and the Secretary, Ogwuokwa Matthew Jonah Aldo called on all Rivers people to conduct themselves peacefully during the election.

“Council further advised all sons and daughters of Rivers state to eschew violence all through the electioneering period.

“Council also advises the electoral umpire (RSIEC) to conduct the forthcoming Local Government Elections in a manner consistent with the rule of law and international best practices.”

The monarchs commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his effort at enhancing the peace of the state while calling on the security agencies to be professional in the discharge of their duties.

The Council further urged traditional rulers to ensure that there is peace in their domain during the election.
