Criminals adopt new strategy, robs with POS in Rivers

Armed robbers terrorizing Eagle Island axis and its environs in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State have adopted a new strategy of attacking their victims due to high presence of security agencies in the area.

Phspectator gathered that the hoodlums now go for robbery operations with Point Of Sale (POS) machine and persuade their victims to slot in their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and also order them to dial their pin for money transfer.

A resident of the area identified simply as Chijioke told our correspondent that the armed robbers on Monday attacked the residence of a retired Army Captain where they robbed family members.

According to him, one of the victims who narrated his ordeal in the hands of the criminals said, “the robbers forcefully made their way into their house and demanded for money, but there was no money, they brought out POS machine and ordered us to bring our ATM cards and insert it into the machine and transfer money to their account which they did.

The victims appealed to security agencies in the state to beef-up security in the area.

Meanwhile, the state police command is yet to comment on the matter at the time of going to press.
