Rivers govt shuts school campus over pupil’s death

‎Rivers State Government has shut the Eligbogbolo Campus 1 of Wisdom Gate International School over the death of a two-year old  pupil, Wyne Akekue.

‎The incident which occurred on 17th March 2026 had sparked wildspread reactions following reports of  alleged cover-up by the school authorities.

‎The State Ministry of Education gave the order for the campus’ closure through a statement signed by the commissioner, Dr. Peters Nwagor.

‎The ministry said it has critically evaluated the situation and also interfaced with the management of the school, adding that it has conducted an independent investigation into the  incident.

‎”While we deeply sympathize with the parents of the child over the irreparable loss, and respect their privacy during this moments of grief, we appeal to members of the public to do same and avoid speculations.

‎”As a Ministry, we have interfaced with the management of the school and  conducted our own independent investigations into the  incident.

‎”Consequently, Wisdom Gate International School, Campus 1, Eligbolo,  is hereby suspended from operations and shall not resume academic activities until all issues surrounding the matter are fully resolved,” he said.

‎Nwagor reiterated the ministry’s commitment  to ensuring standard care, safety  and sustainability while continuing to provide quality assurance both in public and private schools.
