Family escapes death as neighbour poisons soup

Reports say a family of three, on Wednesday in Lagos, narrowly escaped being killed after a neighbour allegedly poured insecticide into their soup.

We gathered that a woman, who was cooking soup in Baale Aiyetoro Street, Ajegunle axis of Apapa and had gone to buy salt, but when she returned, she discovered that the soup aroma had changed to offensive odour of insecticide, suspected to be otapiapia.

The woman who had suspected that something had happened to her soup quickly notified her landlady.

The landlady reportedly arrested the only co-tenant on the premises and took him to the traditional ruler of the area, who later handed him over to the police.

The suspect, Gordon Daniel, during interrogation by the police, confessed to the crime.

He accused the devil of luring him into poisoning the soup.

He told the police that, “the devil pushed me to do it. I doused the soup with sniper insecticide so as to deal with the family. The husband insulted me last time because of electricity bill. He called me a poor man; the devil pushed me to do it. I am sorry.”

The case we gathered has been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, Lagos.
