COVID-19: Rivers State finally sets up isolation centre in Eleme

Following the discovery of first case of Covid-19 in Rivers State, the government has set up a treatment and isolation centre in Eleme Local Government Area of the state.

Prince Nwafor Oji Awala who is the Chief Press Secretary, Eleme Local Government Area confirmed the development via a press statement made available to journalists in Port Harcourt on Friday.

 He said: “This is to bring to the notice of the general public that the Rivers State Government has approved a Covid-19 Isolation and Treatment Center at the General Hospital, Ogale Eleme. This is due to the presence of multi-national companies in the Eleme LGA where emergency may suddenly arise”.

“These are trying times in the lives of our people, the State, Country and the World at large; the Council Chairman, Barr Philip Okparaji takes serious the mandate given to him to protect Eleme LGA and her people in times as this, hence he prays that everyone stays calm as there is no cause for panic for the Coronavirus is not airborne but transmits through body contact. However, the Rivers State Government has put in place every necessary measure to protect the people of Eleme from the disease”.

PHSpectator recalls that there have been several questions from concerned Rivers people on how prepared the state was to tackle the virus in case of any outbreak.

There have also been persistent inquiry especially on the social media on where the isolation centre is located.
