EFCC, NDDC: Sanitise your cabinet now – Bamgbose tells Buhari

Olusegun Bamgbose, Esq., National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has described the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari as ‘stinking’, urging the President to sanitise it without further delay.

The lawyer made this argument following recent reports about a former managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Interim Management Committee, Joi Nunieh’s revelation on the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio’s alleged contract crimes and embezzlement.

He also pointed to the case of the suspended acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, who is under investigation bothering on corruption of high magnitude and the Attorney General of the Federation, Malami, who has equally been accused of corruption.

Bamgbose noted that these are public office holders entrusted to manage affairs of the people with integrity, adding that it is so “sad and painful that the country is almost consumed by the spate of reckless form of corruption.”

In a statement he signed and made available to newsmen on Monday, the legal practitioner noted that “Almost all the ministries, agencies have become cesspool of corruption.

“This is really unfortunate. The sitting Governors are not left out. President Buhari is known to be a rugged corruption fighter, but it seems, the Buhari we know, in the 80s has changed.

“His cabinet stinks and there is need for urgent sanitization and overhauling of the Cabinet. Nigeria is in a serious mess. President Buhari must rise up to the occasion and stem the tide of corruption in Nigeria.

“Treasury looters are number one enemies of Nigeria. The system need total cleansing before corruption will consume our country.

“Corruption breeds poverty, poverty in turn breeds crime. I think it’s time for Nigerians to come up and vote corruption out of the system.

“As President of this country, I won’t spare any corrupt official. Let me however declare here that corrupt officials will certainly face the judgment of God on the last day.

“They possibly can escape the judgment of man, but not that of God. It’s high time Buhari sanitized his cabinet or lose his reputation as a corruption fighter.

“There should not be any sacred cow when it comes to the fight against corruption. One will expect the President to immediately order probe of the Ministries, Agencies etc. Nigeria is losing the fight against corruption. We cannot afford to give up on the fight against graft.”
