Rivers Police burst trafficking ring, rescue 15 children

Officers of the Rivers State Police Command have rescued 15 children from a child trafficking ring in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

This was made known at a press briefing by the state Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, at the state police headquarters on Tuesday.

He also paraded 21 suspects for various crimes such as car and motorcycle theft, kidnapping, drug peddling, and gun running.

A lady alleged to be a reverend sister was paraded s the trafficker of the 15 rescued children.

CP Eboka said: “on 3rd September 2022, Operation Restore Peace Personnel of the Command, acting on credible information regarding hideout of child traffickers, stormed Omuigwe Abuja Phase II, Aluu, in Ikwerre Local Government Area where a lady, who claimed to be Rev. Sister Maureen Wechinwu ‘f’ aged 44yrs was arrested and fifteen children were rescued, case transferred to CP Monitoring Unit for discrete investigation”.

He said investigations are ongoing as some of the children have been reunited with their parents.
