Rivers: Gunmen abduct two travellers along Emohua/Kalabari Road

Two passengers travelling in a private vehicle have  been reportedly abducted on the Emohua/Kalabari Road in Rivers State.

It was gathered that the abductors struck Tuesday night, whisking the travellers away into the bush.

The incident occurred barely two days after council chairmen of the four councils making up the area such as Emohua, Asari-Toru, Degema and Akuku-Toru  visited the  area along with security agents following the abduction of six travellers  in the same area five days ago.

An eyewitness, a driver at Choba Park said the private vehicle was laden with illegally refined petroleum product and heading for Choba.

He said the attack happened at about 8 pm on the same spot where a commercial bus driver was killed and eight of his passengers kidnapped a fortnight ago.

He said, “There were two persons in the car comprising the driver and another man. The kidnappers took two of them and left the vehicle there. Policemen went and saw the car.

When contacted, the state Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, who said the incident had not been reported to the command, however, confirmed the rescue of four of the six victims saying they had intensified efforts to free other captives and arrest the perpetrators.
