People from Tai local council of Rivers State, home council of the senator representing Rivers South East in the National Assembly, Barry Mpigi has stated that they are solidly behind the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The people under name, Concerned People of Tai Local Government Area consequently, condemned and dissociated themselves from comments credited to Mpigi against Fubara over the ongoing impasse between the governor and the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting in Kpite community in Tai, spokeperson of the group, Jolly Benjamin Ngbor said true lovers of democracy and good governance in Tai are not part of Mpigi’s activities and statements.
The group therefore, disassociated itself from the negative public utterances and actions of Senator Barinaada Mpigi.
Ngbor explained that the group had consulted widely with traditional rulers, political leaders, academics, technocrats, women and youths in the area on the ongoing political impasse.
He emphasised that they have all agreed that there can only be one governor in Rivers State at a time.
Ngbor therefore, affirmed their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara who is also from the same Senatorial District with them.
“That we condemn in totality and disassociate ourselves from any unwholesome actions and inactions meted on His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara by Senator Barinaada Mpigi-representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District.
“That we further urged our dear Senator to redirect his energy towards fulfilling his electioneering promises to the Rivers South-East
Senatorial District in general and the Tai people in particular.
“That this voice stands as the louder voice of the good people of Tai as it cut across the ten wards”, he stated.
Ngbor stressed that the governor has started well by setting in motion the machinery for the revamping of the abandoned Songhai Integrated Farms in Bunu Tai in order to provide employment for the teeming unemployed youths in the State.
He said Tai people find no fault in Governor Fubara who means well for the state, and condemned the attempt by some disgruntled lawmakers and their sponsors who are moving for the impeachment of the governor.
“That we found no fault in him, hence we outrightly condemn in strong terms the move for his impeachment.”
Ngbor said the group also supports the actions taken so far by Edison Ehie, the member representing Ahoada East constituency II, who is now the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly in ensuring that the functions of the legislature is not jeopardized.
