A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the emergence of Dumo Lulu-Briggs as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 governorship election.
The suit, filed by one of the party’s governorship aspirants, Kings Unyeawaji, alleged unfair exclusion from the party’s primary election. However, the plaintiff later applied to withdraw the case, a move that was not opposed by the defendants.
The presiding judge, Justice Muhammed Turaki, consequently dismissed the suit, effectively clearing the legal hurdle for Lulu-Briggs’ candidacy. Reacting to the judgment, Lulu-Briggs welcomed the ruling and expressed confidence ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Reacting, to the matter, Lulu-Briggs in a post on his verified social media handle thanked the court for expediting action on the matter.
He said he is now focused on the election and delivering his promises to Rivers people. The NDC gubernatorial candidate also said the speedy delivery of judgement in the matter represents what’s to come from the party.
Lulu-Briggs said: “The suit against my candidacy, against our party, against the collective will of the people who stood behind me, has been dismissed.
”I want to thank Justice Muhammed Turaki and the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt for handling this matter with the speed and clarity it deserved.
”Look closely at how quickly this was resolved. That efficiency is not an accident. It is a preview.
”It tells you something about what we will bring to governance in Rivers State. No delays where delays are not necessary. No confusion where clarity is required”.
”Just decisive action and quick solutions for the people who are waiting, sometimes for years, for their government to simply work. That is the standard I am bringing to this race, and it is the standard I will bring to government”.
To those who challenged the process of his emergence, Lulu-Briggs said he holds nothing against them.
”Contest is part of democracy. But now the coast is clear, and my attention returns fully to the people of Rivers State and the work ahead of us.
”2027 is coming. And when we win, this transformation will not choose sides. It will lift everyone, friend and former opponent alike,” he added.
