Management of thr Federal University of Environment Technology (FUET), Koroma/Saakpenwa in Ogoniland says it is exploring all avenues to get the approval of the Federal Government to expand its admission quota to around 5000.
Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom said the expansion has become necessary following the number of students seeking admission into the school.
Mmom who stated this while addressing some Ogoni youths under aegis of Ogoni Youths Development Initiative (OYDI) who paid him a birthday visit in Port Harcourt, said the initial approval of 1600 given to the school has become grossly inadequate due to the influx of applicants.
” We have been working assiduously, we want to increase the enrollment qouta. So far we have over 5000 applicants, and the initial approval we got was for 1600, the rest where do we place them if we don’t get to increase the quota? We have met with the NUC team from Abuja to see how to achieve that, ” he disclosed.
He said the management has made admission process seamless for those seeking to study in the school that’s why there is a rush for admission in the school.
He commended the support of the pioneer members of staff of the institution for giving him the support, assuring that he is poised to make the school an envy of many in this region.
”These team are all pioneers, making sacrifices to see that that university not just takes-off but be the envy of other universities. I thank them for all the support they have been giving to me and their sacrifices in making sure that people will hear about that university, ” he added.
The VC thanked the Ogoni youth body for their support, adding that with more collaboration the school would continue to develop into a global brand.
”By the grace of God, we shall continue to work together to see to the development of that university so that we can beat our chest to say we started it from the scratch, ” he assured.
President of Ogoni Youths Development Initiative ( OYDI), Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar said the group decided to celebrate the VC for his achievements in the school in less than two years after of operation.
Oscar noted that so many persons doubted the possibility of the school kicking-off but noted that the passion and strong will of the VC mafe it possible.
”We are here to celebrate with you and as a mark of appreciation for what you have been able to achieve at the Federal University of Environment Technology (FUET), Koroma/Saakpenwa.
” When the institution was established, we thought it was not going to function. We thought because of the perceived lack of government’s seriousness towards funding the institution, it was not going to kickstart at the time. But having seen the level of your seriousness in ensuring that the university works, it has now become a thing of joy that we supported you and the university is working; and it is today an envy of other institutions, ” he said.
Oscar while assuring the VC of the support of Ogoni youths, declared that the youths would rise to confront anybody that seeks to sabotage the smooth running of the school.
”You were given an institution that has nowhere to start from and that was a test on your capability and today so many persons are thinking that after you they would want to be the next VC of the school because of what you have done.
” So we the youths of Ogoni and South-South region that had supported you from the beginning, we are going to support you till the end of your tenure. We also wish that there would always be a first and a second. When the time comes, whoever stands to challenge your administration, we’ll challenge the person. We want to join you to ensure that the school remain successful, ” Oscar declared.
