Husband of deaf and dumb woman sells children for N1.5m in Rivers

Rivers State Police Command has arrested seven suspected child traffickers with a two weeks old baby and three years old child rescued from them.

Spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Iringe-Koko, while parading the suspects said father of the children, Michael Charles whose wife is a deaf and dumb sold his three children for 700,000 thousand naira, 500,000 thousand naira and 350,000 thousand naira respectively with the help of a Doctor, Nelson Bernard.

Mr Charles in an interview with Journalists said he was intercepted by OSPAC, a local vigilante group in his community Omerelu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State when he was about selling his new born baby.

He disclosed that he was handed over to the Elele Police Division from where he was transferred to CP Monitoring unit.

The mother-in-law to Ekwueme who was at the scene of the parade explained to reporters that before now, the suspect had lied to her that her grandchildren had died after delivery.

She said further that Ekwueme has been taking advantage of her daughter, his wife’s deaf and dumb condition to perpetrate the act of selling their children upon delivery.
