The Professor Olu Andah Wai-Ogosu-led council of the Movement For The Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has distanced itself from a purported call for national rally/ general congress by the Feghalo Nsuke-led group at Bera, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State tomorrow (Saturday).
MOSOP in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar said the call does not emanate from her leadership and as such should be discarded by all Ogonis.
The statement said those behind the call are persons out to pursue their selfish interest.
The body further threatened to take legal actions against those impersonating its leadership while calling on the security agencies to hold the conveners of the gathering responsible should there be any breakdown of law and order in any part of Ogoni on account of the call.
The statement reads in parts:
“The announcement by Apostle Celestine Viura and Alex Akori, supporters of the non-existent MOSOP leadership led by Feghalo Nsuke, is illegal and should not be allowed to stand.
“MOSOP has not summoned any National Rally/General Congress, and anyone doing so is an imposter and should be arrested by the Police and other security agencies.
“MOSOP remains undivided under Engr. Olu Andah Wai-Ogosu’s leadership, and we urge those parading as leaders, including Mr. Feghalo Nsuke, to cease their actions in the interest of peace in Ogoniland.
“We call on sponsors of these factions and their supporters to stop their actions, which are detrimental to Ogoni’s well-being.
“MOSOP was not created for personal aggrandizement, and we will not allow it to be used for selfish interests.
“Ogoni has suffered enough from divisive leadership, and MOSOP will no longer tolerate such actions.
“If the impersonators persist, MOSOP will take legal action against them.
“We hold Mr. Feghalo Nsuke, Apostle Celestine Viura, and Alex Akori accountable for any breakdown of law and order in Ogoniland, and we urge the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu, and other security agencies to take necessary action.
“We urge law-abiding Ogonis to ignore the impersonators and go about their lawful duties”.
