Rivers State Police Command has announced the dissolution of Tactical Teams within the Command.
The dissolution is in line with ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency, professionalism, and public confidence in policing, the command said.
The command in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Blessing Agabe, said the action was in strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is being implemented under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju.
Agabe, an assistant superintendent of police said following the directive, all disbanded Tactical Teams have been consolidated into a single, specialized formation known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), adding; “The unit is mandated to respond swiftly and decisively to incidents of violent crime, while adhering to established rules of engagement and respect for fundamental human rights”.
The command further issued a strong warning to all officers against extortion, abuse of office, and all forms of unprofessional conduct.
”Officers are reminded that any violation of the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct and professional ethics will attract strict disciplinary action, ” the statement read.
Agabe re-echoed the assurances of the State Commissioner of Police to residents of the state of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to cooperate with the police and report any misconduct or suspicious activities.
