In a strategic move to restore lasting peace and stability in Lorre Community, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chief Thomas Bariere has inaugurated a seven-member Lorre Peace, Security and Reconciliation Committee.
The committee is chaired by Chief Dumbete Obegu, with Nzor Clement serving as Secretary. Other members are Nlogah Barieenee, Bariledum Nkue, Peter Lelesi, Anthony Gbaramana, and Chief Johnson Lewa Kenneth, Adviser on Chieftaincy and Community Affairs to the Chairman.
Speaking during the inauguration, Dr. Thomas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that peace in Lorre remains a priority.
”As Executive Chairman, I took an oath to protect lives and property. Lorre cannot be on fire while I am here. I charge this committee to carry out its assignment diligently and recommend practical solutions that will restore peace, security and reconciliation in the community,” he said.
The Chairman further directed the committee to conduct its assignment with fairness, transparency and impartiality while engaging all stakeholders. The committee is mandated to investigate the causes of insecurity, facilitate reconciliation among aggrieved parties, examine chieftaincy-related issues, identify leadership gaps and recommend sustainable measures for peace and development.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Chief Dumbete Obegu thanked the council boss for the confidence reposed in them and assured that the committee would work within its Terms of Reference, consult widely and make recommendations that would promote peace, unity and security in Lorre.
The committee’s inauguration was facilitated by Chief Kenneth Johnson Lewa, whose efforts and commitment to community peace contributed significantly to the initiative.
The inauguration marks another bold step by the Khana Local Government administration towards ensuring justice, reconciliation, security and sustainable development across communities in the area.
