Rivers: Retired General rejects appointment as CSO to Khana Council

Reactions are now trailing the decision of a retired Brigadier General of the Nigerian Army, Dikko Nnaa, to turn down an offer to serve as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State .

The Retired Brigadier General Dikko Nnaa is from Sii community in Khana. Many Khana youths are said to currently be serving in different arms of the military as a result of his assistance.

A source informed  that the new Khana council chairman,  Thomas Bariere, made him the offer shortly after demobilizing the local government vigilante outfit, KHASPAC, inaugurated by his predecessor for failing to live up to expectation.

Khana has been in the news in recent times for multiple cult related clashes in some communities with a staggering number of fatalities.

A source disclosed that the retired military officer, while rejecting the appointment, instead agreed to give his security firm to assist the LGA overcome its security challenges. He had also reportedly cited his membership of the APC and stressed that it is not right to serve in an administration run by the opposition.

Another source said General Nnaa promised to support virtually all security endeavour in Khana and the larger Ogoni community.

His position has reportedly sparked reactions, especially amongst Khana youth on social media.

While some have described the appointment as belittling for a man of his stature, others insist he ought to have accepted it as a means to serve humanity and give back to the community.

One Hanson ThankGod said: “Retired Brigadier General Dikko Nnaa is from my community, Sii, and we know his worth. In fact, because of this single General in my community, there is no single compound that does not have an Army officer, both Navy and Air Force, and the community was very flabbergasted when we heard of the appointment. We graciously thank God that he has judiciously addressed the heart-fainted appointment to the Glory of God Almighty.”

“How on earth could we ridicule our people; if it is true that a Retired General was contemplated to be made CSO to a Local Government Chairman or Council?

“Ogoni seriously needs a roundtable leadership meeting and programme to reset our mindsets about our leadership structure and strategies for Ogoni nationality”.

Another respondent, Demua Demua said: “That is what the man said: that he agreed to give his security firm to the LGA, not him to be CSO.”

“Secondly, that [since] he is a member of [the] APC, [it] is not right to serve in the government, but he and others will at all times assist in the area of security in Khana, and Ogoni at large, to protect our people. So, to me, I see nothing wrong in his action.”
